You tap into your inner wisdom when you go to the space called "life between the lives".
What happens is that right after you see yourself "die" in that past life you immediately feel light, harmonious, and at peace. That's when the fun part begins.
You see yourself travel to the spirit world, where you meet your spirit guides, chat with your guardian angels, clarify life lessons, maybe even meet the god almighty herself - whoever that is to you. If you'd disowned feelings or suffered from disassociation, this is when you have a soul retrieval (more about this in the "benefits" below) and reintegrate the fractured psyche.
For the scientific types, all those archetypes, i.e. the guides, the angels, and the god are the parts of the Self. They form the High Self, or the Super Self, as it can be sometimes called. By externalizing them you effectively tap into your inner wisdom. The inner wisdom that has always been there, in-built in your psyche, but that you've been conditioned not to trust since you were little.
In a regression you can reactivate that inner wisdom and start living by your own guidance. It can realign you to your true north, offer a solution, heal trauma and erase the emotional residue from past experiences.
Just think about it: who, better than you, can possibly know what's best for you?? That's right, nobody. There is no better alternative to Your Inner Wisdom.

Michael Newton was the first or at least most famous US regression therapist who understood the power of the "life between the lives". He build a practice and a
following based on that concept alone.
